Site Preparation
When you’re ready to purchase a new backyard structure from Backyard Dreams, we encourage you to consider a few details related to permitting and site preparation. If you have questions about any pre-purchase considerations, please contact us and we will help you work through them.
Permitting & Municipalities
Prior to purchasing any structure we recommend contacting your local municipality to see if they require you to obtain a permit. We aIso advise you to check on setback requirements to determine where the structure can be placed in relation to property lines. AdditionalIv, there might be restrictions you will need to meet, including the height or size of your structure. We are often asked to supply building specs and we will be happy to assist whenever possible.
Note that we do often build on site, and are happy to service Pennsylvania, the Mid Atlantic region and the broader East Coast.
Preparing the Site
For our structures, we request that you start with a level pad of 3/4″ crushed stone, 3’’ to 4’’deep and larger than the size of structure. For example a 10′ x12′ building would require a pad at least 12′ x 14′. This will ensure better drainage around the structure. Contact us if you have questions about this.
To prepare a gravel base, remove the sod from an area sIightIy larger than the pad. Next, level the site by removing dirt where necessary and spread the gravel to a depth of about 3’’ to 4″, Finally, tamp the gravel down with a piece of 4 x 4 or a tamper until it is evenly distributed and the site is level. Installing a 4 x 6 border will help keep the stone in place. This is not required, but will result in a better appearance.
Note that a IeveI concrete sIab 3’’ to 4’’ thick can also be used. Cinder block is not recommended.
